Swat has some of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Pakistan. Most require a jeep ride or a trek, but they reward effort with surreal turquoise water and pine-and-snow scenery.
The most famous lake in Swat and one of the most photographed spots in all of Pakistan. Located 35 km north of Kalam at 9,500 feet, accessible by 4x4 jeep in 2 hours. The lake is fed by glacial melt and is surrounded by dense pine forest and snow-capped peaks.
Best time: June to September when the jeep track is clear of snow. In early summer the lake is ringed by wildflowers. Boat rides are available at the lake shore for PKR 400-600 per person.
Camp at the designated camping site right at the lake edge. Bring warm clothes as temperatures drop to 5-8°C at night even in summer.

A glacier-fed alpine lake at 11,500 feet above sea level, reached by a 6-7 hour trek from Utror village above Kalam. One of the highest accessible lakes in Swat.
Best time: July to September only. The trail is snow-covered before July. Hire a local guide in Utror village; the trail is not fully marked. Camping is allowed at the lake.
Alternatively, hire a jeep from Kalam to the Kandol meadows start point (3 hours) and then a 2-hour walk to the lake.
A beautiful alpine lake at approximately 10,000 feet, reached by a 3-4 hour trek from Daral village above Bahrain. The trek starts from the Bahrain-Madyan road.
The trail passes through forest and open meadows. Daral Lake is less crowded than Mahodand and offers a more peaceful experience.
Camping is allowed at the lake edge. A guide from Bahrain is recommended as the upper trail has forks.

A remote high-altitude lake accessible from Kalam via the Ladu meadows trail. Less visited than Mahodand or Kandol, making it ideal for solitude-seeking trekkers.
Full-day jeep plus trek combination required. Best in August-September.
Khapero Lake: full-day trek from Kalam, passes through high alpine meadows.
Pari Lake (Saidgai): hidden lake near Daral village, very few visitors and no facilities.
Chota Mahodand (Artificial Lake): a smaller engineered lake near Mahodand, popular with local families.
Andrab Lake: a viewpoint lake above Madyan, accessible by short jeep plus walk.
Dhamaka Lake: above Utror, adventurous trail for experienced trekkers.
Mahodand Lake, accessible by 4x4 jeep from Kalam in about 2 hours, no trekking required.
Technically yes, but the water is glacial and extremely cold even in summer (8-12°C). Most visitors wade rather than swim.
There are basic makeshift facilities near the camping site and the main parking area, but no formal public toilets. Plan accordingly.
