Bahrain, meaning 'two rivers' in Arabic, takes its name from its spectacular location at the confluence of the Swat River and the Daral River. The town has been a waypoint for travelers and traders for centuries, connecting the lowlands of Swat with the highland valleys of Kalam and beyond.
Historically, Bahrain was known for its trout-rich rivers and dense forests. The British established a rest house here during the colonial period, recognizing the scenic potential of the location. Under the Wali of Swat, Bahrain developed as a market town serving the needs of the surrounding villages.
In the modern era, Bahrain has transformed into one of Swat's busiest tourist hubs. Its position as the gateway to Kalam, combined with its own natural beauty, makes it an essential stop for every visitor. The riverside hotels, trout restaurants, and the iconic river pools draw visitors year-round.
Bahrain lies on the main Mingora to Kalam road, about 59 km from Mingora. The drive takes approximately 2 hours. Regular public transport (wagons and buses) is available from Mingora. The road is paved and scenic, following the Swat River upstream.
