Madyan is one of the oldest market towns in Swat Valley. For centuries, it served as the commercial crossroads where traders from the highland villages came to buy supplies and sell their forest Products. The town's bazaar, with its narrow lanes and wooden shop fronts, retains much of its historical character.
The hot springs near Madyan have been visited for their supposed medicinal properties for generations. Local legend holds that a saint blessed the waters, giving them healing powers. Whether or not you believe the legend, the warm mineral springs remain a popular draw, especially in the cooler months.
Today, Madyan is known as the 'Gateway to Upper Swat' because virtually every tourist heading to Bahrain and Kalam passes through here.
